"Jos Koedooder: "Trade is still too opaque"

Netherlands: Uneventful cabbage market with reasonable prices

The prices fetched for white and red cabbage are decent at the moment. The price of white cabbage is around 17 cents, and that of red cabbage a little higher. Still, the market is reasonable, according to trader Jos Koedooder from Bovenkarspel: “Prices are fair, but aren’t skyrocketing. There’s some produce heading for Eastern Europe, but not as much as I expected.”

“Actually, the market is sort of impervious right now. Nobody is showing their cards and it’s unclear what the price levels will do. People are busy harvesting, but I don’t think warehouses will be fully stocked this year. It wouldn’t surprise me to see some shortages in the coming months. The crops tend to be small and were affected by the weather.”
