US (AZ): Yuma Lettuce Days removed from 2017 event calendar
"Upon careful consideration, it has been determined that the annual festival requires further research and evaluation to identify how Yuma Lettuce Days fits our mission and, perhaps, develop ways to make the event more sustainable," reads a statement from Linda Morgan, YVB Executive Director.
This year (February 27 and 28), Lettuce Days celebrated its 18th year of all-things Yuma agriculture and the culinary arts with produce for the picking, farm tours, food and art vendors, equipment displays, entertainment, and educational activities for all ages.
In only its second year at the University of Arizona's Yuma Agricultural Center, Yuma Lettuce Days welcomed celebrity guest chef Michael Cairns from the Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia for an interactive discussion about farm fresh foods and cooking demonstrations on a fully-stocked, mobile kitchen stage. And, for first the time in Lettuce Days history, ¡Salúd! to the Field Workers shared a look into the lives of laborers through firsthand storytelling and multimedia presentations.
"Moving forward with our program into 2017, YVB remains committed to spotlighting Yuma’s agricultural and culinary heritage through our various agritourism offerings and dining experiences," continues Morgan's statement. "We are excited for what is planned and we are confident in the ability of those activities to attract visitors to Yuma from all over the world."
With a mission to promote Yuma as a destination site by spreading the word about the rich diversity of the area and its history, YVB looks to use its resources to better fulfill those responsibilities and, in turn, increase year-round tourism in Yuma.
