This year Dutch company Enza Zaden celebrates its 75th anniversary. Reason for a party, but also time for contemplation on the progress made in the past decades. During a special symposium, attendants not only looked back on the rich history of the company, but also peered into the future of the trade. What will the consumer look like in the year 2020?
The board of directors of Enza Zaden: Heim Bemelmans, Luuk van der Pal, Joep Lambalk, Vincent van Bentum and Jaap Mazereeuw
CEO Jaap Mazereeuw took time to reflect on this issue: “The quintessential consumer doesn’t exist,” he stated, touting: “Like the world around us, consumers will always be changing. In order to flourish, we have to change with them. At the same time, we have to hold on to what is vital and vibrant in our company. Varieties come and go, but brands will stay.”
In three particularly exciting presentations speakers Cor Molenaar (Extraordinary Professor Erasmus University), Martien Penning (Hillenraad Partners) and Wim de Ridder (Future Research Professor, University of Twente) discussed the revolution of consumers and how to respond to them.
