Satisfactory level
This autumn Spain was a few weeks late on the market due to technical cultivation problems. The Dutch growers have benefited from this. In previous years there was a weak price formation in October, now it remains at a satisfactory level. The red bell pepper for example is sold for around 1.80 euros.
Badly needed
Especially in the beginning of the season the prices were very high. Here there was also less supply and it ran along with promotional campaigns in Germany which drove the prices up. All in all it's been a satisfactory season for pepper growers. This was badly needed. The previous years were much less. "The pointed bell pepper has done well also. This variety has a greater market stability than the ordinary bell pepper. The price did not fall extremely this season during the supply peak."
BelOrta sold about 16 million kg, of which 8 million kg were red bell peppers. This number ensures that bell peppers are in the top five of fruit and vegetables from BelOrta.
