Asparagus from Mexico crossing through Calexico, California, and San Luis, Arizona and Arizona, continues to see more supply than demand. The good news is there is an increase in retail demand, setting up ads as prices continue to fall 2.29-.99 per pound.
Shippers hope this will entice shoppers to buy asparagus, which is not their normal purchase. Some shippers found a boost in sales for the open market. Production noted little change as optimal weather conditions increased yields. Growers continue to curtail harvest even as most growers are in peak production.
Movement is expected to remain about the same. Trading is very slow. Prices are generally unchanged. 28-pound cartons/crates bunched large are mostly 11.75-12.75, standard are mostly 10.75; 11 pound cartons/crates bunched jumbo are mostly 8.75, large are mostly 10.75, standard are mostly 10.75; organic large are mostly 12.75, standard are mostly 12.75.
