In 2023, the value of Italian fresh fruit and vegetable exports amounted to 5,780 million euros, i.e., 9.1% more than the nearly 5,300 million euros achieved in the previous year, according to Cronache di Gusto based on data from the National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT). However, the volume of these exports decreased slightly by 0.9%, standing at 3,483 tons.
Meanwhile, Italian imports -like those of neighboring countries- increased by 13.6% in volume and 15.7% in value. This growth affects various products, including tubers, vegetables, and legumes, whose exports have increased by 8.7% in volume and 18.4% in value. Citrus fruits have also shown a significant 9.9% and 19.3% increase in volume and value, respectively.
On the other hand, fresh fruits were impacted by the pear and summer fruit production crisis that resulted in a 7% decrease in volume but helped their value grow by 6.1%, exceeding 3,000 million euros.
