NL: Acreage reduced, but greenhouse harvests keep on growing

Recent figures from the CBS show that since 2010 the number of hectares used for greenhouse vegetables are reducing steadily. In 2010 the number of hectares used in the Netherlands was 4998, to 4454 hectares in 2017.

The harvest figures meanwhile keep on growing. In 2017 1804,7 million kilo vegetables were harvested from greenhouses. In 1998 that was still 1340 million kilo. The increasing efficiency in growing contributes to this growth without a doubt.

Tomato growers have the largest acreage with 1790 hectares, while 103 hectares are used for growing eggplants.
