"Cherry tomatoes are grown in many places in Hainan, Guangdong and Shandong. The cherry tomato production area in Qingdao, one of the main production areas, has been growing year after year," states Mr. Zheng Lilong from Qingdao Pingdu Fruit and Vegetables Co Ltd.

"In Qingdao, we have over 20 hectares of greenhouses where we grow cherry tomatoes. The production quantity per hectare is around 700 kg. Our cherry tomatoes are being sold by sales agents through traditional sales channels to high end markets in China, such as large scale distributors and supermarkets in second tier cities. Last year, we exported over 5000 kg of cherry tomatoes to Hong Kong, but because shipping them takes a long time, after they have arrived at the port, the quality is not ideal. We are waiting for an opportunity to try to expand to foreign markets."

"This year, the production season of Qingdao cherry tomatoes started in the spring, and will end around the middle of August. The climate will be stable this year, so the production quantity will be slightly larger than last year. Because the production area has been increasing, the market price will be higher than last year."
