Tomato prices decrease in China
Currently, the majority of tomatoes on the market is from production sites in Hebei, such as Raoyang county in Hengshui, Suning county in Baoding, and Gu'an county in Langfang. These are all big producers of tomatoes in the summer. Every year between June and July, 70%-80% of the sold tomatoes comes from these areas.
Considering that in the same period last year, the tomato production grew, which led to a dramatic drop in price, this year's smaller production will mean that the production volume remains stable. Therefore, the future price will not fluctuate as much either.
Earlier, the tomato price was rather high. This was mainly because the majority was produced in Shandong, Inner Mongolia and Liaoning. When the tomatoes from Hebei entered the market and increased the volume, the price dropped. However, the price from Shandong tomatoes still remains high. Overall, the price of Shandong tomatoes can only rise up until a certain point. In the short term, the price will become stable again.
