Russia: Moscow region to add 15,000 ag and industrial jobs

As of today, 46 large-scale agricultural projects are nearing their completion or being launched in the Moscow Region: 15 of them have already been implemented, and 31 projects are underway, which means that in the near future the number of jobs in the agricultural and industrial sector will increase by more than 15,000.

For example, LLC Lukhovitskie Ovoshchi (Lukhovitsy Vegetables) Greenhouse Complex with an annual target production of 10,000 tonnes of vegetables and fruit in protected ground was built in the Lukhovitsky District. A new grain processing and cereal production facility with an annual target production output of 25 thousand tonnes was commissioned in Domodedovo.

One of the most advanced facilities in Europe producing salads and vacuum-packed shredded vegetables with a daily production output of up to 18 tonnes was built and commission in 2016 within the framework of the "Salateriya" master project. The investment in the project amounted to over $4 million. The Dmitrovskie Ovoshchi (Dmitrovo Vegetables) Group of Companies has implemented the "Ovoshchi Kryma" (Vegetables of Crimea) project in Crimea. Production of fresh vitamin rich vegetables and, first of all, early spring vegetables for Moscow supermarkets was organized on the peninsula.

19 projects are scheduled to be commissioned in 2017; 12 more will launch their operation by 2019. New agribusinesses will create 1,800 jobs this year and more than 15,000 by 2019. Greenhouses, mushroom farms, vegetable storages, breeding and seed production centers, distribution hubs and agribusinesses growing produce in an unprotected environment will be hiring specialists.

"A 2 ha greenhouse complex growing flowers, fruit trees and shrubs and more than 4 million seedlings annually will be opening in the Stupino District of the Moscow Region. The volume of investment in the project that will be commissioned this year is 227 million rubles", said Denis Butsaev, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Moscow Region, Minister of Investments and Innovations of the Moscow Region. "In 2018, we are planning to launch a mushroom farm growing Asian mushrooms like shiitake, king oyster mushrooms and shimeji with a target annual production of 8.7 tonnes. The Moscow Region remains a leader in the production of vegetables grown in open and protected ground among all categories of farms and ranks first in the Central Federal District and 6th in the Russian Federation."

To make the region more appealing to investors, the Government of the Moscow Region provides plots of land allocated for investment projects implemented in prioritized areas of development of the agricultural and industrial complex on the "no-bidding" basis. In 2015, the region received an unprecedented support program. Some capital costs incurred in the construction and renovation of facilities of the agricultural and industrial complex were made subject to reimbursement. This new measure proved to be as effective as the existing reimbursement of interest accrued on investment loans program. In 2016, agribusinesses received more than 200 million rubles from the regional budget. Another 156 million rubles were routed to farmers' cooperatives and individual farms in a form of grants. In 2016, 1.6 billion rubles were allocated from the regional budget for the development of the Moscow Region's agricultural and industrial complex.
