Greenhouse strawberries kick off Ukrainian berry season

The Ukrainian berry season has started two weeks earlier this year compared to last. Fruit-Inform reports that last week, beginning 18 April, the Ukrainian berry season kicked off, with farmers starting shipments of their first volumes of greenhouse strawberries.

For the present, prices vary between UAH 80-100/kg (EUR 2.70-3.45/kg) against averaging UAH 130/kg (EUR 5.50/kg) a year before.

Farmers are forced to start their season with lower prices due to rather low demand for produce. Last year they shipped their greenhouse strawberries mainly to Crimea, while the internal market demand was moderate. For the present, the demand in the domestic market is still not high, while sales to Crimea are impossible due to the blockade.
