Irresistible freshness from Spanish fields is the main focus of trading company Difrusa
Compared to last year, for all varieties volumes in the Spanish peppers’ business increased slightly. Above all, the great demand for snack peppers is to be noted. Morillas: “We sell the Tribelli primarily in a mix: red, yellow and orange ones in 200 gram bags or trays. In addition to this, we also market the red sweet Sweet Palermo peppers, a flavorful red pointed pepper. That's where the demand gets bigger every year. As a result, we are seeing a trend towards sweet snack varieties with a high brix value.”

The GmbH is a branch of the Spanish export company Difrusa Export SA and has its headquarters at the Cologne Wholesale Market. From there, retail chains throughout the Federal Republic are supplied with fresh Spanish products. “We started about two weeks ago with the new pepper harvest from Murcia and our season lasts into August. At present, we hardly see any competition from German greenhouse products, in contrast to Dutch products. However, our customer base is very loyal and appreciates our special varieties,” says Morillas.

Even iceberg lettuce sales are currently still a significant sales base of the GmbH, although this season is already coming to an end. The iceberg lettuce is expected to be on the German market until week 20-21. Morillas: “Prices have been below average this season so far and only recently have they been at a satisfactory level. We have good hope that the prices will go up a bit at the end of the season. In any case, we have the advantage that we currently have hardly any competition with this lettuce, because German goods are not yet on the market.”
