Insectrac Easicount System:

New pattern improves the effectiveness of sticky traps

Sticky traps form the basis of pest management for many growers, but counting and registering the insects and pests is an intense job. The British company International Pheromone Systems (IPS) introduces the sticky trap Insectrac Easicount System.

"It's actually just a sticky trap, only more effective and faster," says Hans Mohler of IPS. "Of course you count the bugs in the boxes and then you calculate the total number of insects on the board." The placement of the boxes on the board may seem random, but it isn't. "It's based on a mathematical formula, so that the five boxes collectively give a reliable estimate. So you know not only how your crop is doing, but also whether you need to place additional sticky traps or where you need to focus on in crop protection."

Because of the contrast on the trap, it is more attractive to the insects, according to Mohler. "That makes the Easicount also a good choice if you do not have to count", says Hans.

New factory

IPS has been active in the development of insect pheromones and trapping systems for more than thirty years. This year the company will start with the production of the sticky traps in a new factory, because they see that there is a lot of interest for the products. "These traps, but also biodegradable products," says Hans. "These can just leave together with the crop."

This year the sticky traps are being taken into production. The sticky traps are available in gold, blue and white, in Polystyrene (HIPS) and Pet and in three sizes.
