New cloth filter tailored to Dutch horticulture

ECOfilter wants to help Dutch growers meet the stricter legislation concerning the discharge of drainage water. "Our new cloth filter can reduce the investment in a water treatment system, reduce costs or make a water system 100% closed," says Cees de Haan of ECOfilter.

The cloth filter has specially been developed for the Dutch horticulture and has already been tested for two years. In recent years, ECOfilter's Cees den Haan saw the demand develop for a cloth filter, manufactured in the Netherlands.

In the system, the water is filtered fully automatic by means of a filter cloth. In this way, the non-dissolved substances are removed from the water. A special system ensures that there always is sufficient operating filter cloth available. The used cloth drops in the waste bin. "The cloth filters can be used for the filtering of drain water or rainwater, but also for a BZG certified water treatment system," Cees tells. "The cloth filter can replace sand filters and automatic backwash filters, but also can filter backwash water centrally from these systems. Because you do not have backwash water anymore, there also is no more emission of pesticides."

According to Cees the cloth filter is reliable and easy to use for the removal of solids from water. "It's actually rather a simple, but effective system - and very maintenance and user friendly." Because the system operates without pressure, there is saving on energy costs of the pumps. Moreover, he shows, it can clearly be seen what is being filtered out of the drain water. "Thus, you can intervene more quickly in case of adverse situations."

The cloth filter filters up to <20μm. The cloth filters are produced by ECOfilter in the Netherlands. They are supplied and installed by dealers. In 2017, investments in cloth filters will get a tax benefit of 36% Mia and 75% Vamil.
