Choosing the right tomato in German

De Ruiter launches German version of online tomatoes tool

Choosing the right tomato variety is an important strategic consideration for growers and retailers. Growing conditions, personal preferences and market conditions play a major role. De Ruiter is one of the largest suppliers of tomato seeds, with a wide range of varieties in all segments. To enable growers and retailers to quickly choose the right tomato, De Ruiter launched an online tomato tool: We Love Tomatoes. Up till now, this was only available in English and Dutch, but now the German version is also online. This focuses specifically on German-speaking retailers, who buy their tomatoes on the Dutch and UK markets.

Based on eight questions, which can be answered in just thirty seconds, the participant gets clear advice. In that advice, as many as sixty tomato varieties are included, in all segments from beef and vine tomatoes to cocktail, cherry and specialties. In all three versions, the newest variety of De Ruiter Sevance (breeder code DR1398TH, subject to approval) has been added.

Two perspectives

In the beginning of the series of questions, the visitor chooses a clear position: answer the questions from a grower’s point of view or from a 'consumer perspective', like wholesalers and retailers often do. This last perspective is highly valued; in conversations with traders, retailers and growers the tomatoes tool can be used to look at the different tomatoes through the eyes of the consumer

The tomatoes tool is available in Dutch on www.welovetomatoes.nl, in English on www.welovetomatoes.eu and in German on www.welovetomatoes.de. Obviously the De Ruiter tomatoes tool is suitable for both iPad and laptop and desktop.
