Why Cisco selected aeroponics for its smart city in China

Cisco is active in the global “smart city” movement, deploying the latest technologies to benefit communities. The Silicon Valley tech giant turned to an AEssenseGrows aeroponics system to provide fresh produce for its smart city in Guangzhou, China.

At an April 24 event in Guangzhou, Cisco signed a memorandum of understanding with AEssenseGrows and other partners in the smart city project. AEssenseGrows is tasked with providing an aeroponics system that delivers indoor-grown produce to the smart city’s residents.

“Whether for traffic and parking systems, street lighting, or food production, today’s technology can improve city life like never before,” said Phil Gibson, AEssenseGrows’ vice president of Marketing. “Cisco’s smart cities are a brilliant way to demonstrate the real-life value that the latest technological breakthroughs can deliver, and AEssenseGrows is excited to be an integral part of it.”

The ag-tech company’s advanced grow systems feature sensor-driven software that monitors and automatically adjusts the ingredients for specific grow recipes. This technology reduces risk while offering a simpler path to the inherent benefits of aeroponics. By enabling high-yield indoor plant production, the AEssenseGrows technology offers innovation that can make vertical farming a meaningful contributor to sustainable communities.

Participating in Cisco’s smart city project expands AEssenseGrows’ presence in China. The company has an office and 1,200-square-meter plant factory in Shanghai, as well as a service that delivers top-quality fresh produce to customers’ doors.
