US (IN): Purdue workshop series to highlight hydroponics and greenhouse crop production

Home and commercial growers are invited to join the Purdue University Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture for the Hydroponics for Everyone workshop series.

Starting in May, the series is led by Krishna Nemali, associate professor of horticulture and the controlled environment agriculture Extension specialist. "This workshop series will be useful for home and commercial growers, high school students, teachers, and Purdue Extension Master Gardeners to learn about managing nutrients, substrates, and growing crops organically in hydroponic production," said Nemali.

The series is open to the public and will be held at the state-of-the-art Purdue hydroponics facility at 625 Agriculture Mall Drive in West Lafayette, Indiana, with free parking available.

There will be one workshop in May and one in June. Each session will occur on four Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following dates:

  • May 4
  • May 11
  • May 18
  • May 25
  • June 8
  • June 15
  • June 22
  • June 29

The workshops will feature a crash course on hydroponic production with extensive hands-on experience. Interested participants should only register for one of these sessions, as they will offer the same material.

Lunch will be included, and attendees will receive printed materials on hydroponic production. Attendees will also be able to take plants and seedlings home. Registration is $300 per participant with a limited number of seats available per session.

Register by April 30 for the May workshop or by June 5 for the June workshop.
