New labor-friendly cucumber variety unveiled

Blueray RZ is a newly developed variety by Rijk Zwaan specifically for high-tech greenhouse growers.

Developed to compete in the Verdon summer segment, the company says that Blueray RZ offers fruit quality and higher yield potential. Its labor-friendly open plant structure, featuring smaller leaf sizes and shorter internodes, simplifies crop maintenance while promoting robust root development and stronger fruit setting, even in hot summer conditions. Blueray RZ is resilient to burnt heads, making it an ideal choice for growers seeking consistent performance in summer growing periods.

The company also says that Blueray RZ offers high resistance to mosaic virus CGMMV, matching the resistance found in Verdon RZ, Bluesbrother RZ, and Bonnet RZ varieties. Along with the high virus resistance, you can rely on the high resistance to powdery mildew. On top of that, Blueray RZ keeps a chlorophyll-rich leaf structure longer into the crop cycle.

"With its medium fruit length, rich dark green color, and excellent overall fruit quality maintained until the end of the crop cycle, Blueray RZ offers a 5% higher yield on average, without sacrificing the desired medium fruit length," the Rijk Zwaan team concludes.
