Colored vine tomatoes for the Tour de France Femmes

The first colored vine tomatoes from Harvest House grower (and avid cyclist) Kees Stijger have been harvested. Stijger presented the first box of these yellow and orange tomatoes to Westland council member Anko Goudswaard, in honor of the Tour de France Femmes. This took place during the announcement of the route, which will pass through the Westland this year.

Grower Kees Stijger from Honselersdijk has been cultivating colored cluster tomatoes for Harvest House for years. In his greenhouse, he was able to harvest the first clusters of these special tomatoes last week.

Kees is an avid cyclist and a he is fan of the grand tours. This inspired him to present the first harvest of his colored tomatoes to council member Goudswaard. "The Tour de France Femmes is recognized by everyone for its yellow color and I find it one of the most beautiful cycling tours there are. Orange represents the Netherlands. Our yellow and orange cluster tomatoes fit perfectly with this. And the start of the season coincided with the announcement of the route," Kees says excitedly.

Therefore, yellow and orange cluster tomatoes should not be missing during the Tour de France Femmes. "Did you know that the cyclists will literally pass by our company in Honselersdijk in August?"

Season start
The yellow and orange cluster tomatoes are now available again at Harvest House. Since 1994, Kees Stijger has been cultivating three colors of cluster tomatoes: yellow, orange, and red. The red ones are of course well known, but the yellow and orange tomatoes are not yet familiar to everyone. "It's not just the color, but also the taste that is different. The orange is full and firm, the red tastes slightly sweet, and the yellow tomato is fresh and juicy."

The greenhouse of Kees Stijger in Honselersdijk is heated with geothermal energy from Trias Westland.
