Status of Andalusian greenhouse crops in mid-February

Producers in Almeria's pepper greenhouses continued uprooting the earliest plantations. The cycle of the peppers that were planted later will end with the latest harvests. The peppers from the long cultivation cycle are the only ones left until the end of the season.

Producers continued harvesting all tomato varieties. What was planted in autumn has been or is being uprooted. Spring plantations are at different stages of development.

The harvest continued in the eggplant greenhouses, and in some of them, producers were planting new crops. Zucchini continued to be harvested, but some greenhouses were emptied to make way for the planting of melons, watermelons, or zucchini once again.

The production cycle of some cucumber plantations ended, and after uprooting them, producers are planting new cucumbers or other vegetable crops. Later, the plantation will be the only crop left.

Melons and watermelons continued to be planted. The vegetative development is good. In some greenhouses, watermelon plants were already in bloom, and beehives were brought in to promote pollination. The most recent plantations are being protected with thermal blankets.

Cádiz
In the greenhouses of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, the Galia melons were in the flowering, fruiting, and fruit growth phases. The plants are stalked and watered for 10-15 minutes every three days so they can get as much water as possible.

Granada
Producers in the La Costa region harvested smooth tomatoes, vine tomatoes, and cherry tomatoes. The harvest was stopped because of the farmers' strike. Producers harvested Spanish and Almeria cucumber varieties. The price of the latter was low. Courgettes and eggplants were still in the ripening and fruit fattening phases. Producers continued planting watermelons, and the most advanced watermelon crops were in their leaf development stage.

Huelva
Producers are harvesting the Palmeritas and Primavera strawberries. They have also started to harvest the earliest blueberry varieties. They are watering sandy soil with 18 m³/ha/day almost every day. There's a lot of fruit coming in from Morocco, which is straining prices.
