Berry production halts at renowned Perthshire's Leadketty Farm

Leadketty Farm, a prominent berry grower in Perthshire, has declared it is ceasing production at its Dunning location. The Corrigall family, operators of the farm, cited skyrocketing production costs and insufficient supermarket support as the main reasons for this "difficult and heartbreaking decision". For the past 80 years, the family has been farming at Leadketty, employing over 100 people every summer during the berry picking season.

The family announced their decision in a Facebook post, expressing their deep sadness and acknowledging the challenging times they've faced. They criticized supermarkets for offering low returns and lack of support, rendering their business unsustainable. The Leadketty Farm, managed by Harold Corrigall and his son Stephen, initially grew potatoes before exclusively switching to berries. Their produce, including fresh strawberries, raspberries, and jam, supplied supermarkets and local shops.

Upon hearing the news, supporters expressed their shock and sadness, lamenting the loss of a hardworking farming family and their high-quality local produce.
