Ukrainian banks not ready to support greenhouse investments

The payback period for a new greenhouse project in Ukraine stands at a minimum of 8–10 years, making banks hesitant to engage in such lengthy commitments, according to Sergiy Lenchuk, director of the greenhouse company "Galicia Greenery" in the Lviv region.

"Unfortunately, banks are not prepared to engage with investors for such an extended period. The banking system evaluates risks based solely on current company performance," he noted.

According to Lenchuk, the primary factors hindering the construction of new glass greenhouses and the slow growth of plastic film-covered areas are the high cost of construction and energy, low purchasing power among Ukrainians, and low prices of imported greenhouse vegetables.

Currently, there is no long-term project financing available for greenhouse farms in Ukraine, Lenchuk concluded.
