Results from trials in Wageningen:

Dutrion chlorine dioxide extends cut flower life span up to 15 days

Chlorine dioxide is used to disinfect drinking water for humans and livestock and it has excellent results against Listeria, Salmonella and E.coli. Furthermore this molecule has shown an important role in preventing biofilm and washing off organic matter in irrigation systems.

However, Duka Productions Ltd. have decided to take the matter further and prove what unique Dutrion chlorine dioxide chemistry does in intense agriculture where pathogens are persistent, especially in greenhouse cultivations.

So we decided to commission a study from the University of Wageningen on the effect of Botrytis on fresh products and especially on Gerbera flowers. When the infected cut flowers are sprayed with a Dutrion chlorine dioxide solution it eliminates these pathogens thus extending the life span of the cut flower from 1 to 15 days.

In the conclusion of the study was stated:
"In the treatments with Dutrion there was no damage on the ray florets observed compared to the untreated flowers. In this test with artificially applied Botrytis spores Dutrion at a concentration of 40 or 80 ppm chlorine dioxide is able to give a complete reduction of large (visible) lesions in comparison with the infected control flowers. The small lesions were respectively reduced 87% or 96%."

This test proves that Dutrion chlorine dioxide eliminates Botrytis spores by spraying it directly on the flower without leaving any ill effect on the flower and thus extending the life span of the cut flower.

Studies conducted in USA (Special research report # 448) show similar results. Chlorine dioxide was added to vase water containing fresh flowers and resulted that these flowers will last 1 to 15 days longer. Results were depending on the type flower. It will also keep the inside of the vase (container) free from biofilm.

If plants come in contact with water containing Dutrion they achieve a better growth rate and those flowers and fruits have a longer life span.

More importantly, Dutrion provides custom-made chlorine dioxide solutions in order to gain the best return of investment. A simple solution, provided and delivered by several distribution teams around the world.

Results from other Dutrion trials related to vegetables and fruits conducted in several countries can be discussed with our stand personnel during the GreenTech exhibition.
