BrownCoir is a new supplier of coir growing media that will be exhibiting at the Greentech in Amsterdam next week. Their Sri-Lanka based coir factory was established in 2000 and their mission is to produce world-class coconut peat products and supply horticultural producers all over the world. Mr Thushara Wijayasingha, Director of Business Development said, "We would like to stand out from the crowd of coco coir producers with our superior quality and unique product lines. Currently we have many growers using our products in South-Korea and we have offices in Russia and Australia. But we also have the ambition to supply any grower in any country of the world." He also mentioned that they have several warehouses, research fields and intensive product development activities.
As he explained, their production started 14 years ago and for years they supplied other producers with the coir products. However, they have established their own brand name recently and they are on their way to making growers familiar with this new name. "We already marketed our products via other brand names in the past, but we have now started to supply them with our own Brand of Browncoir (Browngrow) products. In order to be able to supply the global demand, we have established a new state of the art manufacturing plant in Bingiriya, Sri-Lanka.
The company has different growing media products and product lines, such as coir blocks, briquettes and disks. They produce growing cubes and bags as well.
They have five different types of growing bags (Brown Grow- Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond and Platinum) for different cultures. Mr Wijayasingha said "All our growing bags have a unique composition and they promote the excellent growth and production capacity of the respective cultures."
‘Brown Grow-Bronze’ is a special growing media designed exclusively for strawberry and other small fruit cultivation with pre-cut plant holes and pre-drilled dripper holes. As Mr Thushara Wijayasingha explained "Our high-quality coco offers plants easy rooting throughout the substrate along with excellent draining properties, while holding onto critical water and nutrient solutions."
"‘Brown Grow-Silver’ is a very unique product, which offers the ultimate nourishing environment for cucumber, eggplant and capsicum varieties. It provides a stabilised pH, low EC, high air porosity and excellent drainage capabilities. Pre-drilled and pre-cut dripper holes, drainage slits and planting holes make Brown Grow Silver substrate an ultimate choice in a Complete Ready to Grow Media solution."- he said.
‘Brown Grow- Gold‘ is the perfect growing media solution for tomato growers. The scientists of BrownCoir have developed this mix over the past decade. It is a special combination of coco chips and fine coco peat, which protect the delicate root zone of tomatoes and assists in the necessary nutrient uptake.
‘Brown Grow- Diamond’ offers a 100% recyclable and organic growing medium for vegetables, flowers or small fruit crops. As Mr Wijayasingha explained, "Manufactured from crushed coco husks, our Diamond substrate is a precision growing environment, which encourages optimal growth and yield for a profitable harvest."
Wijayasingha said ‘Brown Grow- Platinum’ goes even one step further than the ‘Gold’ regarding air holding capacity. "With a forty percent air-holding capacity the vegetables, flowers or small fruits are anchored in a medium that offers stable and nourishing root support that is pH balanced, pathogen free and holds low EC. Manufactured from specially graded crushed coco husk chips and super washed coco fibres, it distributes roots evenly and provides a secure growing environment."
