Pelemix's manufacturing system ensures the quality of its coir fibre

Pelemix is currently one of the leading firms in the production and distribution of coir fibre as a substrate for intensive crops.

Originally, this Israeli company was merely a primary producer and had its products distributed through a local distributor; however, in 2003 decided to start distributing in a key market like Spain. In this sense, David Mayol, general director of Pelemix Spain, affirms that "the real beginning of our transition from a manufacturer to a producer/distributor model took place in 2003 and Spain was what triggered the need. Nowadays, not only do we manufacture and distribute the coir fibre, but we also distribute products from Paskal, Mapal and Polysack."

Pelemix now owns four coir fibre factories in Sri Lanka and one in India and is the world's third largest marketer of compressed fibre growbags. The manufacturing system used allows for greater control of the product's quality, before and after the process. "Since the beginning we preferred running our own factories rather than purchasing from third parties, precisely to ensure the quality of something as important as the substrate. A proportional investment was also made for the creation of a technical team which is currently setting the sector's standards," explains Mayol. "This control over the entire process also allows us to optimise the value chain and have stock of our material in our facilities at Alhama de Murcia right before the campaign starts."

Quality, service and innovation are the three pillars on which Pelemix is sustained and these are the inherent qualities of its products.

Innovation
Innovation is essential for Pelemix, as according to David Mayol, "we understand that our job consists, for the most part, in making life easier for growers, in innovating alongside them and help them in any way we can." Taking this into account, "we and our partners work hard every day to develop new and innovative products, not only for the brands that we already work with, but also others that Pelemix plans to launch soon."

A clear example of this is Paskal's Weight System; a revolutionary real time information system within the greenhouse based on measure units that weight the plants every twenty minutes. Mapal has also developed a new container model for raspberries and strawberries, and Polysack's photoselective netting has become a benchmark within the sector.

Lastly, the company also announced the upcoming sale of the latest and most advanced compressed fibre growbags.
