New York shows interest in sutainable Venlo stucture:

German joint venture designs productive high tech nano greenhouse of 0.14 m²

Sustainability and mega-cities are some of the big challenges of greenhouse tech around the globe. 100% sustainability is the goal of a joint-venture between Bluffinghausen University of applied sciences in a suburb of Dresden and Novavert in Greven (Germany). Prof. Dr. Witzmann is one of the leading experts in nano-technology and together with the Novavert engineering team they managed to achieve their goal.

One of the major problems with the construction says Novavert´s Niclas Heescher was to get the mini-equipment for the greenhouse, especially the screening. Novavert invested some big money into extra small machines and scissors to be able to produce these kinds of cloth.

Prof Dr. Witzmann´s wife April, who is also involved, originates from New York: “The greenhouses are so productive but small – the land-use is so effective it is amazing. I have already bought 0.14 m² of land in downtown NYC for an urban production, enough land for the construction of 20,140,104 greenhouses.

Now a prototype of a nano-greenhouse has been erected completely made out of PLA, a eco-friendly plastic material. Thus the greenhouses are not only 100% green but they can also be eaten together with crop grown inside. Niclas Heescher: “The prototype was a bit too chrunchy due to the heavy beams we used but the new adapted Venlo-Design we are going to use next together with butter lettuce will be a healthy joy in the mouth."

Next step will be getting the work permit from NYC authorities for the use of trained ants to erect and work inside the greenhouses. A mixed team with Mexican, Germans and Dutch ants has proven to deliver the best results so far.
