Japan: Ever seen Toyota's greenhouse for potted flowers?

In order to enter the growing floriculture business, in 1999 Toyota established Toyota Floritech Co., Ltd. with Hakusan Co.,Ltd. - a seeds and seedlings import company - and began full-scale operations.

The company's large greenhouse for potted flowers is equipped with a highly automated cultivation system and is one of the largest in Asia, measuring 88 by 231 meters. The company is taking advantage of a climate which surpasses even that of countries like Denmark or Holland, where the flower business flourishes, to produce various types of flowers. Approximately four million mini potted flowers and ornamental plants are sold each year.

Greenhouse and its equipment

  • Greenhouse area/Approx.20,000㎡ (Width:88m×Length:231m)
  • Annual production capacity/Approx.4 million pots
  • Adopted the “Automatic Cultivation System” developed by Viemose-Doriboga in Denmark
  • Under the complete control of temperature, humidity and sunlight, plants are nurtured by the automated water delivery system and liquid fertilizer resulting in quality products. Plants are shipped in three months after planting
*More than 900tons of CO2 has been reduced annually through the fuel change and the tri-generation system.
