US (CA): Growers travel to Eureka to learn hydroponic business techniques

Recently, potential and current hydroponic growers converged on Eureka California to engage in the latest AmHydro “Introduction to Commercial Hydroponics” seminar.

AmHydro holds several 2-day seminars each year in various locations across the US, featuring classroom lecture, and “hands-on” knowledge provided by successful commercial growers and industry leaders. In addition to hydroponic growing techniques, attendees also were immersed in classes on building a CEA business, managing operations, and food safety protocols. A highly diverse group attended, which included representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Climate Change from the African country of Burkina Faso (travelling over 7,000 miles!), a large scale grain farmer from Kansas, fruit plantation owners from Jamaica, and the owner of a West Virginia hydroponic farming business.

After leaving the classroom setting, the group ventured to a nearby commercial hydroponic greenhouse where they participated in seeding transplanting, harvesting, and biological pest control practices. Joe Swartz, VP of Amhydro explains, “the goal here is to provide participants with a well-rounded understanding of building and operating a controlled environment agriculture business.” He adds, “understanding proper horticultural practices, ag-related business management, and food safety/regulatory issues are all critically important to the success of your operation. We strive to provide sound, time-tested systems and procedures based on our successful experience as commercial growers ourselves.”

AmHydro’s next seminar is planned for October 11th and 12th.
