Italy: Fresh Guru aims at doubling its hectares

The past seasons have been very positive season for the Italian grower Fresh Guru. "So much so that the covered area will go from the current 11 to 22 hectares of greenhouses", the company reveals. Fresh Guru is a brand of the Italian company Fri-El Green. In this greenhouse, they combine a traditional season with an LED-lighted winter campaign.



TOV's
According to sales manager Alessio Orlandi, the market response on the TOV's is good both in Italy and abroad. "We guarantee continuous homogeneous supplies. Half of the greenhouses are illuminated with LEDs during the winter cycle. We're expecting to have 11 hectares with artificial lighting and 11 hectares for the summer cycle in the future." In total the company aims to grow to 30 hectares on this location. 

The current greenhouse is foreseen with a patented C-LED lighting system. Fri-El played an important role in the development of the lamps.







Next winter campaign
Orlandi is currently planning the distribution for the next winter campaign starting in October. The objective are pre-fixed quantities and prices. "We want to escape the market price logic. We have what it takes to establish constant prices and shares. For example: if the price of tomatoes is 10, the chain will pay it that amount for the duration of the agreement, whether the market values them at 8 or at 15. It's good for everyone, even for consumers, who get used to constant prices", Alessio assures. 

The sale manager has been rather busy lately working on agreements with chains interested in this way of working, which is actually rather common in more advanced nations such as the Netherlands. 

"The first tests we carried out have been excellent, as having pre-determined quantities and prices enables us to plan our activities."
