NL: Growers union Prominent doubles capacity with new construction

A striking new building belonging to growers union Prominent will arise next to the A90 in 2019. In the new building the activities of the two current small packaging locations will be amalgamated into one location and the office employees will also move into here. Thanks to fully automated packaging lines 250 million packages of tomatoes will eventually pass through here annually: twice the current amount.

The new building is an important milestone in carrying out the strategic growth plan for Prominent. "As an innovative specialist in tomatoes we aim to grow in all important segments. We want to ensure our position as chain director, particularly in the future. Due to the growth of the area and growth in all important tomato segments such as cherry, plum and snack tomatoes, the demand for the capacity to package all these tomatoes according to the customers specifications is also growing. With the new building Prominent will soon have all the facilities necessary and have a large enough scale to be able meet the market demands."

Space for partners
The new packaging facilities also literally provide more space for closer collaboration with Purple Pride, Green Diamonds, Sweetpoint and Papric, the partners within the cooperation DOOR. At the moment talks are being held on this. It could offer customers the opportunity for a one stop shop, by offering to small package other vegetables as well as tomatoes. The newest technologies and automation ensure that it is possible to play into the desires of retailers, food markets and other customers even more quickly in the new location. Prominent
Prominent is a union of 30 tomato companies that are worth 380 hectares together, including 3 of their own cultivation locations. As well as sales, the growers also work together in packaging, breeding their own varieties and sending out employees. Prominent has also been collaborating for years to develop knowledge, for instance in the area of cultivation, crop protection and energy. The three own cultivation locations function as a sort of nursery for this.
