Plans for CAU Futong establishment in South Holland

Chinese delegation visits World Horti Center

Less than one week after the official opening of the World Horti Center in the Netherlands, a delegation from the Chinese company Futong visited the brand new international greenhouse horticulture center on Tuesday 13 March 2018. High-tech company Futong, part of the China Agricultural University, works on the development of greenhouse horticulture in China. In the presence of Antoon van de Ven of the Westland municipality, the plans of Futong in the Netherlands were discussed during a lunch. The Chinese company is considering opening a subsidiary in South Holland in order to keep up even better with the technological developments in the greenhouse horticulture field.

Futong is already cooperating extensively with Dutch companies such as Hoogendoorn and Codema Systems Group, which were visited by the delegation earlier that morning. The Chinese company has several large agricultural demonstration sites in its own country, including a 10-hectare greenhouse horticulture site full of Dutch technology.

Good timing
In addition to supplying turnkey projects, Futong also acts as bridge builder between local Chinese authorities and companies. With a possible establishment in South Holland, Futong can also help Dutch companies to enter the Chinese market. Due to increasing government interest and investments, greenhouse horticulture in China is on the rise and so the delegation leader and director Zhang repeatedly emphasized that the visit comes at the right time.

During the rest of the week, the delegation will visit several companies. Zhang indicated that he hopes to return to the Netherlands in June to organize a meeting with Dutch companies at the World Horti Center. Zhang also hopes to frequently welcome many Dutch companies in Beijing as a sign of good cooperation.
