How much is accurate Yield Forecasting worth to SunSelect?

Yield forecasting systems are one of the hot items of 2018. The year only is 3 months old and so far we've seen quite a few companies sharing their knowledge and products on this subject. One of them is Motorleaf. Their Yield Prediction System is based on a self-learning algorithm, custom-made for a greenhouse enterprise and driven on artificial intelligence.

Over the last year, US tomato grower SunSelect (150 acres) worked with a beta of Motorleafs’ Yield Prediction System. In a video Victor Krahn (owner SunSelect) gives an example of how valuable accurate tomato production forecasting is to his organization.

For example if you have an ad with a big retailer and you were forecasting 100,000 cases to them that month and one week you have 25,000 pieces and the next week you have 10,000, overall you'll be short. That could mean the difference of 50 cts / kg to your sales", he calculates. "Average we produce a kilo per m2, and in this greenhouse that's 130,000 kgs a week." Calculating it all, it could turn out into a difference of 70,000 dollar.

Agronomist
Over the last season, the company worked with a beta version of the Motorleaf Yield Prediction service for commercial greenhouses, developed by AgTech company Motorleaf. It was launched in Agronomist.ai, their virtual agronomist platform for greenhouse and indoor growers worldwide. “We didn’t think we could still be surprised, but the numbers proved to be more impressive than we expected. We’ve seen the number of errors being reduced by 45.9 per cent. For us, that’s the number to watch", Motorleaf-CEO Ally Monk stated with the launch of the product.
