Van der Hoeven is responsible for the complete construction process and so is the "Principal contractor" under English law and regulations. The first phase is 14 acres (5.6 hectares) and includes a specially designed area of 3.5 acres (1.4 hectares) where LED lighting will be used. The greenhouse itself is 23 feet (7.00 meters) high, which helps to make the semi-closed principle work well.
Brexit is certainly looking good for Van der Hoeven. The demand for locally produced food is high, the supermarkets want to minimize their exposure to the risks arising from imports from the continent.
This year, following the first ModulAIR greenhouse there will also be 8.5 acres (3.5 hectares) in Manchester and a further 16 acres (6.5 hectares) constructed for Thanet Earth.
