UK: New EAMU ‘Luna Sensation’ generated for lettuce growers

A new Extension of Authorisation for Minor Use (EAMU) ‘Luna Sensation’ has been issued to help lettuce growers with the control of diseases including Botrytis cinerea and powdery mildew.

Luna Sensation was included in SCEPTRE a four-year plant protection research programme and showed promising results on a range of targets and crops.

The EAMU for Luna Sensation as a fungicide on lettuce has followed a label approval for protected strawberry, issued in March 2017.

Kim Parker, crop protection scientist (diseases) at AHDB said, “This broad spectrum fungicide will provide a useful addition to the existing products available for control of lettuce diseases.

Botrytis and Sclerotinia are common problems which often develop around crop maturity, and this product has the advantage of a short seven-day harvest interval. Luna Sensation also shows promise for management of powdery mildew which has been an increasing problem on lettuce in recent years.”

The AHDB crop protection programme is now working with Bayer to obtain additional uses through EAMU applications for other crops and targets.

Bolette Palle Neve, Crop Protection Scientist (Pesticide Regulation) at AHDB said, “Luna Sensation was shown to be very effective for the control of powdery mildew, botrytis and other diseases with excellent results in SCEPTRE trials. We think lettuce growers will welcome this EAMU to help with their options for plant protection control.

We will be working with Bayer to obtain additional uses for the product through EAMUs for other crops and targets.”

Luna Sensation was coded as product 77 in the following SCEPTRE trials and the full report can be read here.

SCEPTREplus is a new four-year crop protection programme, funded by AHDB to deliver applied research on high priority disease, pest and weed problems in fresh produce and ornamental crops. It aims to support approval of products and devise and develop IPM programmes to support the horticultural industry. To find out more, please click here.
