Netherlands: Modular packing hall system for new 44ha Schenkeveld expansion

Dutch tomato grower Kwekerij Schenkeveld is building a new expansion with an area of 44 ha of greenhouses in Rijsenhout. The construction of the project takes place in phases, which has started with the construction of the first 11 ha and the packaging hall. The second phase will follow subsequently. The cultivation of the TOVs starts this autumn and will be done with lighted cultivation.

Kwekerij Schenkeveld currently has 3 nurseries in and around the Westland with a total area of 30 ha. The company is fully specialized in the cultivation of TOVs and with the new location the acreage is thus expanded to a total of about 75 hectares.

For the equipment in the packaging hall, the company has been talking to various suppliers. The different solutions were compared as well as the backgrounds of the involved providers. After an extensive analysis, Schenkeveld has once again chosen for Taks Handling Systems. "In particular, reliability and service have been the important criteria. The analysis showed that Taks was scoring high on these points. And the developed solution fully fits in with our vision of harvest processing," according to Leon Schenkeveld. Taks Handling Systems has also provided the complete layout of the packaging hall at the other locations. For these locations, several innovations have been developed by Taks, which have resulted in significant efficiency improvements, this was due to the ideas and experience originating from Schenkeveld in recent years.

For the new packaging hall a modularly extendable solution was chosen. With the construction of each subsequent phase, the harvest processing system is also extended. Thanks to the modular approach that was developed by Taks Handling Systems, extensions can be realized without conversion costs and without interrupting the running system.
