"Practicing sustainable growth by building with aluminium"
Varnet introduced the all-aluminium structure with the aim of providing a sustainable greenhouse that would have a longer life span than the current steel structures.
"One of the driving forces behind sustainability in the horticultural industry areenergy and water efficiency technologies. By using these, operating cost can be deceased, profitability sees an increase and the environmental footprint of the greenhouse is decreased. As builders of greenhouses have followed another consideration when it comes to operating cost", said Jozsef Nagy, Sales & Export Manager at Varnet.
Nagy explained that, the use of an aluminium greenhouse structure can provide great savings on the long term.
"Steel constructions require regular maintenance in order to preserve the lifespan. We have calculated that, despite hot dip galvanizing and other preventative methods, growers spend approximately 5 – 7 % of the price of the steel structure annually on maintenance of the structure itself. This amounts to a very significant cost that can be saved by using a tried and trusted alternative construction building material like aluminium."
"The lifespan of aluminium is endless as it is resistant against corrosion, chemicals and weather", Nagy added. "Aluminium can be recycled over and over without the loss to its properties. There is a lot of recycled aluminium available which has tremendous bearing on the energy need associated with the production of steel and hence on the environment."
Varnet Glasshouse Systems is currently working on their first all aluminium greenhouse project.
