De Ruiter eyes comeback with new cucumber varieties

De Ruiter announced that it has made great progress in developing new cucumber varieties that meet the current market demands. The first cucumber in this series was Dubai. Last week, De Ruiter announced three new cucumber varieties.

De Ruiter product and marketing manager for cucumbers Leo Lansbergen does not want to discuss it yet: "We are on the eve of the actual introduction of these three new varieties. Our people from the Technical Development, breeders and Sales are working at this moment to compile all relevant information for interested growers."

Sneak preview

Lansbergen is prepared to give a sneak preview. This involves information that the seed breeder already has shared with her personal relations.

"The first new cucumber variety that De Ruiter will unveil next week, is a variety that excels in production. With its open crop this will become a leader in the market."

"The second new variety in this promising series is one that excels in labor friendliness and a super production in quantity."

"Our third entrant has interesting resistances. Details will follow next week!"

Dubai
Earlier last year De Ruiter kicked off the comeback in cucumber with the introduction of Dubai. De Ruiter compares Dubai with a four wheel drive: the variety has a powerful 'engine' and tremendous stamina. For the past two years Dubai performed well in tests, both in traditional and high-wire cultivation. In the coming summer and autumn the variety will be planted by a growing number of growers in the Netherlands.
