Kulmalan puutarha:

Hybrid lighting helps Finnish basil grower to grow year round

Finnish commercial greenhouse grower Kulmalan puutarha has extensive experience in producing organic salads, herbs, tomatoes and cucumbers. Their products are marketed throughout the whole country under the brand Lassen Luomu as well as under private labels of Finnish supermarket chains. At the end of last year, a new greenhouse for herbs was built and equipped with Netled's hybrid lighting solution.

"Demand for organic herbs has been increasing for some time now and the new production facility answered a real need. With the help of hybrid lighting the growing cycle of basil got significantly shorter and we were able to deliver more products to our customers than we had calculated before the investment," says Jetta Kulmala, the owner of Kulmalan puutarha.

Basil is one of the most challenging herbs to grow during the winter season. Applying organic growing brings additional challenges, because it is not possible to utilize all those methods that are used to increase efficiency in conventional growing. With hybrid lighting it is possible to create optimal light quality and growing environment in both organic and conventional growing also in winter time.
