Germans eat more vegetables

Many people take care of what they eat. According to a report by the 'Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ernährung' (DGE), Germans are eating more vegetables.

Last year, the average German ate around 25 kg of vegetables like tomatoes, cabbage, cucumbers and legumes. They did however, cut down on fruit. Between 2000 and 2011 consumption of vegetables went up with around 1.1 kg per capita per year. In spite of these numbers many Germans are still overweight. 60% of the males and 43% of the females are too fat.

The report also shows that the average German male consumes a kilogram of meat and sausage a week, while the general recommendation is between 300 and 600 grams a week.
