Syngenta vegetable seeds division continues investment in Enkhuizen

Syngenta has announced an investment of more than EUR 21 million in its site in Enkhuizen, North Holland. The company will establish a new R&D Technology Center for vegetable seeds and will modernize its current production facilities. This decision forms part of a phased multi-year program of Syngenta to invest in its vegetable seeds business. The works are planned to take place in 2017.

“Our investment in Enkhuizen supports a growing demand worldwide for vegetable seeds.” said David Morgan, Head of Vegetable Seeds for Syngenta. “The new research and production facilities will benefit from the latest technologies and will enhance even further our innovation capabilities in world markets for brassica, leafy vegetables, tomatoes and peppers.”

Peter Acda, Site Head at Syngenta Enkhuizen, said: “This investment decision shows the great strategic importance of our site in Enkhuizen to research and production of vegetable seeds. It ensures we deliver appropriate infrastructure enhancements reflecting modern glasshouse, growth room and production capabilities.”

The Enkhuizen site is Syngenta’s largest vegetable seeds facility worldwide and employs more than 550 employees. The company has a long history in the region which dates back to the establishment of Sluis & Groot in neighbouring Andijk in 1867. Since then, it grew into one of the leading players in the plant breeding industry. Today, Syngenta employs more than 800 people at seven locations in the country. Mid-2017 the company will celebrate its 150 year presence in the Netherlands.
