New Thermoview sensor monitors climate changes througout the day

‘Big Brother’ is watching Jan van der Harg’s peppers. The new ThermoView sensor and associated software allows Jan to closely monitor the crop. Leaf and fruit temperature is registered 24 hours a day. Jan can link these data to crop development, the greenhouse climate and his energy use.

The focus is on the plant, at Van der Harg. The plant should have an optimal growth environment and certainly not acquire any 'stress'. That begins with monitoring the crop more and more intensively. Modern sensor techniques allow for closer crop monitoring and the collection of valuable data. The ultimate goal is achieving optimal production and quality with, of course, the most efficient use of plant nutrition, CO2 dosage and heat.

To enhance his knowledge of the greenhouse climate Jan is attending The Next Generation Growing course organized by the regional Greenport Arnhem-Nijmegen. To better understand the subject matter of the course Jan believes it is also important to know more precisely how the climate in the greenhouse changes throughout the day. The new ThermoView sensor provides very valuable information in this regard. However, it's the grower’s expertise that determines the success of this new sensor technology.
