French growers get acquainted with Next Generation Growing

How to create the ideal greenhouse climate with the plant as focus, without unnecessary consumption of water, energy and fertilizers? This main question will be discussed on October 19, during the first Masterclass on the Next Generation Growing (NGG) for French growers. Hoogendoorn Growth Management is organizing the training with partner Garo Elec’ at Ctifl (Centre Technique Interprofessionnel Fruits Légumes) in Bellegarde, France.

The principles of Next Generation Growing (NGG) focus to improve the greenhouse growth climate, putting the plant central. This is based on the energy, water and assimilates balance in the plant in relation to the greenhouse climate. The successful implementation of NGG relies on achieving good plant ‘balance’. This is done by ensuring that climate, transpiration, the availability of water and the supply of assimilates within the plant are all optimized.

Jan Voogt (Researcher at Hoogendoorn), one of the founding fathers of NGG: “Next Generation Growing is a matter of knowledge and mind-set rather than investments. It’s about how we can grow the plants in the best possible way. You have to learn to look at your plants in a different way and try to understand what the plant is up to.”

To share the knowledge of this new way of cultivation, Hoogendoorn organizes Masterclasses all over the globe. The next Masterclass on NGG is organized on October 19 in France, together with partner Garo Elec’.

During the Masterclass the three plant balances: energy, water and assimilates, in relation to the greenhouse climate will be discussed. In addition, the versatile possibilities of the Hoogendoorn process computer will be demonstrated to illustrate how to optimize the settings for a desired result.

The Masterclass is provided by an experienced Hoogendoorn Horticulture Consultant René Beerkens from the Netherlands.

Program

9.00 – 11.00: Introduction to principles of Next Generation Growing (including Energy-, Assimilate- and Water Balance of the plant)
11.00 – 11.15: Coffee break
11.15 – 13.00: Backgrounds of Greenhouse physics (including effects of Solar Radiation, Outgoing Longwave Radiation, Temperature and Humidity Control)
13.00 – 14.00: Lunch
14.00 – 17.00: Putting NGG principles into daily practice by optimising your Hoogendoorn controls

Costs are €500 p.p. for one full day Masterclass.
