Kazakhstan: Astana food belt takes shape
Sergey Kulagin, akim (governor) of the region, visits the greenhouse under construction
The Akmola region already provides 100% of the egg, flour and potato demand to Astana, as well as 45% of dairy products and 50% of meat. Now it seems the region will also become a significant supplier of vegetables to the capital.
When finished, the complex will cover 8 plastic greenhouses on an area of 1.8 hectares. The total cost of the project, which is being constructed in the village of Sabyndy in the Korgalzhyn district, is 305 million tenge (900,000 USD).
