Hawthorne takes 75% interest in Gavita

Gavita merges operations

Gavita Nederland bv, based in Aalsmeer, The Netherlands, and Gavita Norway AS, based in Andebu, Norway, have merged into one global organization. This merger includes the former joint venture Gavita Canada.

The new formed company is called Gavita International, with the business to business subsidiaries Gavita Norway, Gavita Nederland, Gavita Canada and the in 2010 founded business to consumer focused Gavita Holland. As a group Gavita International has a worldwide turnover of over 100 million dollar, and double digits grow figures. The new company will be led by the current Dutch management.

Gavita also sought a partner to expand its market leading position and to expand and expedite its research and development plans. We found this partner in the US based Hawthorne Gardening Company. Hawthorne is an A-brand group, focused on bringing together the best brands in gardening and horticulture, to offer green and sustainable solutions for food production. Hawthorne has taken a 75% interest in Gavita. The current Dutch management will stay in place and holds 25% interest in the new company.

“We are delighted with the merger and to have found such fitting partner”, says Marketing Manager Theo Tekstra. “Being part of a group of complementing companies opens new doors for us, while the investment enables us to expand our current market leading position. There will be no changes in day to day business, but for marketing and support of our horticultural customers and retail channels we expect to make big steps forward to a more localized business model. It’s bringing our company to the next level.”
