New: freestanding cover protects water storage tanks

Genap has introduced a freestanding water storage tank cover at the Greentech. With it, new and existing water storage tanks can be protected against contamination. And it also prevents evaporation.

Bas Fortuin of Genap: "You want to protect your water quality and prevent algae growth, evaporation, contamination of the water storage. These are recurring problems." To resolve these the company has developed a freestanding water storage tank cover. The construction could also be viewed at the Greentech last month.

The company has opted for a stand-alone roof construction supported by pipes mounted on concrete footings around the water storage tank. "The roof is inspired by a greenhouse," Bas shows. "With a light steel pipe structure over which plastic cloth is stretched." Depending on what the customer wants that cloth is water-permeable or completely waterproof.

A central, roof-supporting column has been added for extra stability. As a result, even snow and wind load are not a problem. "And because the water storage is freestanding it is not affected by external forces." With the new canopy, diameters can be achieved of up to 15 meters. Bas: "Which applies to 80% of the silos. We focus on both new and existing silos regardless of the brand. And growers can install it themselves if they want."
