Azerbaijani greenhouse (30 ha) supplies to Russia

Dutch economy minister Kamp recently visited the Azerbaijani nursery GreenTech. The high-tech nursery expanded in recent years to 30 hectares. Of the production at GreenTech, more than 60% goes to the Russian market.

Cultivating plants
The first greenhouse of Greentech was built in 2011. At that time they still cultivated on ten hectares. That has grown fast in the past few years. The company now covers 30 hectares. The associated plant nursery has grown 2.5 hectares in the previous year. Just like the first two hectares, this greenhouse is also full of technological gadgets. The greenhouse can be cooled in the summer in order to supply quality products in the hot summers. Green Tech can now process 25 million seedlings per period. They do this not only for themselves, but also for other Azerbaijani growers. The new facility is also equipped with a system to cultivate lettuce with a pad and fan cooling system. The company sees sufficient opportunities for aquaponic cultivation for lettuce and herbs.

Many different vegetables
At the company a variety of vegetables are grown: tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, cucumber and lettuce. The assortment is checked at regular intervals and adjusted. For the first time this season, there are beef tomatoes in the greenhouse. They mainly serve the export market. The product range includes cherry, cherry plum, plum, yellow, black and pink tomatoes. Under the name "The taste of yesteryear" the company also supplies individual quality tomatoes, between 70 and 75 g.

Russian export
In the product mix are, amongst others, aubergines (white and purple) cucumber, bell, dolma and pointed peppers. The company also has open field cultivation. More than 60% of the production of Greentech goes to the Russian market - from Moscow and Saint Petersburg to Novosibirsk and Samara. "But the regional sales are important as well," they say. "We supply to all regions of Azerbaijan – including the largest supermarket chains.

Cooking show
This year the nursery became a sponsor of the cooking show "Wonderful flavours". "Our products are naturally widely used in meals and now we can give information to the viewer about the vegetables," they say.
