Mexico and Spain lead cucumber exports

Mexico leads cucumber exports in volume and Spain in value. They are the world leaders in cucumber exports, as is clear from the data from the Statistics Division of the United Nations (UN), COMTRADE.

Volume
Cucumber exports worldwide in 2015 amounted to 2,575.96 million kilos. Mexico exported 655.19 kilos, Spain exported 625.42 million kilos and the Netherlands 373.88 million kilos. These three countries account for 64.22 percent of the world's cucumber exports.

Spain takes distance from the Netherlands, in 2015 Spanish exports surpassed Dutch cucumber exports by 67.28 percent while in 2014 they only surpassed them by 28.74 percent.

Canada ranks fourth with 125.61 million kilos, followed by China with 79.92, and Turkey with 69.72 million kilos.

Revenues
Worldwide cucumber exports during 2015 amounted to 1884.18 million euros and Spain was the leading exporting country in value as it achieved revenues for a total of 475.73 million euros.

The Netherlands ranked second with 369.47 million euros. Followed by Mexico with 362.13 million euros, Canada with 157.06 million, and Belgium with 57.52 million for its cucumbers.

Prices
Of the five largest exporters, Canada achieved the best price: 1.25 euros per kilo. The Netherlands followed with an average price of 0.988 euros / kilo, Spain with 0.761, Mexico with 0.553, and China with an average price of 0.382 euros per kilo.

Destinations
Mexico allocated 99.51 percent of its cucumber exports to the US market and 0.49 percent to Canada.

Spain sent 239.65 million kilos of cucumber to Germany, Holland 80.05 million kilos to the Netherlands, 79.64 to the UK, 34.46 to France, and 53.06 million kilos to the Polish market.

The Netherlands exports 221.2 million kilos to Germany, 85.41 to the United Kingdom, 11.8 to France, 10.09 to Belgium, and 8.95 to Sweden.

Turkey exported 34 million kilos of cucumber to Russia, 7.06 to the Ukraine, 6.83 to Georgia, 4.54 to Bulgaria, and 3.37 million kilos to Belarus, and other secondary markets.
