Levity CropScience in Lancashire has secured a private equity investment deal that will bring significant finance and skills, as it continues its growth as a business. Two new directors will be joining the board, alongside founders David Marks and Anna Weston who still retain a controlling interest in Levity.

Mike Peters MBE joins Levity as Commercial Director. Mike, who was awarded an MBE in 2013 for services to Northwest industry, has a strong track record in the chemical manufacturing industry. At UPL Mike built a £38,000,000 turnover company with a staff of 250. Mike has taken multiple companies from start-up through to sale and will be an important part of the new Levity management team taking on the role of commercial director.

Mike said, “My expertise is in getting the very best out of a business and its team, building the best team to run the business for long term stability and profitability. I have a passion for British manufacturing. Levity is an exciting company with great ideas and a solid plan for growth and the products and talent to succeed.” He added, “Levity is a British business that is developing world class products and exporting all over the world. I am looking forwards to working with founders David and Anna to help establish Levity as a global player in the fertiliser industry”.

Mick Weston joins the Levity board of directors. Mick has experience in managing large projects through to completion in the third sector, gained in his 20 years as Head of operations at Lancashire Wildlife Trust. Mick has been responsible for getting large-scale infrastructure projects from inception through completion such as the 262ha Brockholes nature reserve.

Mick said, “My skills are in getting large projects off the ground, and it is great to be involved in helping complete some of Levity’s ambitious projects to help improve sustainability in world agriculture”.

The deal brings significant new finance into Levity alongside a strong new management team. The money will be used to fund Levity’s research and development programme as its first stage products start to hit the market.

Levity MD David Marks said, “Anna and myself are delighted to welcome Mike and Mick into Levity. We are in a period of rapid growth, and to realise our potential we need a team that can support Levity in its vision to change world agriculture”. He added “this deal brings us skills and resource to grow Levity”.

Levity MD Anna Weston said, “Our LiNk Nitrogen technology based products are now entering the market, with major deals on distribution to be announced in the coming weeks. This investment will enable Levity to bring products to market that can help farmers produce more food with lower inputs in challenging environments. We are delighted to be able to welcome people of this caliber into Levity during what is an exciting time for the company”.
