New strawberry gutter increases stability

Formflex recently installed a new design of their strawberry gutter at a Dutch greenhouse strawberry nursery in Venlo.

A striking feature of this gutter is the additional groove on top of the gutter to ensure the stability of substrate trays. In addition, this gutter makes root-ingrowth impossible.

The breeder reported that while placing the gutter the substrate trays are automatically guided over the groove. It is adjustable in width to fit all size substrate trays.

Two years ago Formflex converted this client’s former tomato farm with an inverted gutter into a strawberry farm. Two gutters were added to the five existing gutters per trellis and all gutters have been fitted with crop brackets. A disadvantage of this system is that the trays are not attached, so there is a risk that the trays slip off the gutter.

The choice for the new gutter is based on two years of good experience growing with the inverted gutter. The price/quality ratio, the strength (5 meter span) and being able to properly and easily clean the gutter are all advantages.
