United Farms and HortiConnect NL announce sportive partnership

Some people dream of running a marathon one day, and some people challenge themselves to enter a long distance cycling race, or they aim for a long open water swimming competition at some point in their lives.

But only a few take on the endeavor of swimming 3.8 kilometers, biking 180 kilometers and running a full distance marathon all in a single day, in what is called an Ironman Triathlon.

Norway’s Norseman Xtreme Triathlon is regarded as the ultimate triathlon challenge due to its extreme conditions. The course runs from fjord to mountain peak: starting at sea level with a 4 meter drop off from a ferry into the cold waters of a fjord, crossing haunting mountain plateaus by bike and finishing at the rocky peak of mount Gaustatoppen.

Only 250 athletes worldwide get a chance to race in the Norseman. Experienced triathletes hard enough or crazy enough to sustain the gruesome training required, with the athletic credentials on their pedigree to be admitted, will be pushed to their limits to become one of the 160 athletes crossing the finish line.

HortiConnect’s Managing Director Pharis Rico will be representing México this year, racing Norseman with United Farms, a company that operates in the high-technology greenhouse-growing sector, as the major sponsor of this quest. Other sponsors include Taymory, Huub and Trimexico, specialized in triathlon gear and clothing, wetsuits and a magazine specialized in the sport.

"We are happy to be part of this challenge," says Mauricio Revah Managing Director of United Farms, the company in charge of Finka and Solar Garden operation, "as we share for our business, the values and vision required to succeed in such an extreme competition."

Nutrition being the fourth discipline in triathlon, Mauricio and Pharis found an interesting marketing opportunity for publicizing the preparation and helping the nutritionist in charge of helping Pharis – who needs to drop 9 kilos and reconfigure his body mass index in the coming 8 months, while he will require a special diet rich in elements that are naturally present in the products of United Farms.

Besides this sportive collaboration, Mauricio and Pharis foresee a deep and intense cooperation between Horticonnect and United Farms on the development of the Energy Greenhouse Park, a new Agropark to be developed at Queretaro, as well as upscaling trade with the companies active at the current Agropark.

"Our common business interests developed trust and trust sparked friendship," points out Pharis Rico, "we are honored with the task of helping the development of the forthcoming project with the knowledge, products and services of HortiConnect members; now we have found in sports another opportunity to partner and have fun and I’m delighted to announce that Mauricio himself has become part of the support crew that will be assisting me during the race. I'm looking forward to climb Mount Gaustatoppen together with Mauricio!"
